Irritable bowel syndrome (IBS) – symptoms and Treatment

Most people who suffer from irritable bowel syndrome are not diagnosed and, in time, the condition may worsen. Psychological stress is an aggravating factor in IBS, beginning with increased symptoms or increasing abdominal pain episodes. Often, these symptoms are attributed to other diseases for which we come to take treatment wrongly (for example, prescribing treatment for biliary disorders and other serious diseases), but in reality we suffer from irritable bowel.

The following symptoms are also commonly found

cramping and abdominal pain that is relieved by bowel movements.Irritable bowel

alternating periods of diarrhea and constipation.

modification in frequency or stool consistency.

flatulence.

mucus elimination from rectum.

bloating.

abdominal distention.

Constipation can be caused by many factors such as unhealthy diet , stress , medicine , chemicals from food or other sources. All these cause an increase in the amount of mucus in the colon, which is trying to fend off harmful substances. Mucus is combined with the food uneaten from processed food and full of chemicals and thickens the walls of the intestine, so that feces cannot easily get out.

Causes that lead to irritable bowel syndrome are unknown. The walls of the intestines are lined with layers of muscles that contract and relax at a steady pace, while food crosses the stomach through the intestinal tract to the rectum. If you suffer from irritable bowel syndrome, the contractions may be stronger and last longer than normal.

Trigger factors

Food, stress, hormones.

For unclear reasons, if you have irritable bowel syndrome is likely to react strongly to stimuli that do not bother other people. Trigger factors of this disease can mean gas or pressure on intestines, caused by certain foods, medications or emotions. For many people the symptoms worsen when eating certain foods.

Treatment

It will help avoid dairy temporary, to assess whether the symptoms are actually lactose intolerance, or indeed of irritable bowel syndrome. People who avoid dairy products should however, consider the use of calcium supplements.

Certain foods such as cruciferous vegetables (cauliflower, broccoli, cabbage, Brussels sprouts) and legumes (beans) may worsen symptoms of gas and bloating.

Fibers may eliminate the symptoms.

People with irritable bowel syndrome should drink plenty of liquids, especially water and avoid carbonated drinks, which often cause gas and abdominal discomfort. Quantitatively smaller meals can reduce the incidence of cramps and diarrhea.

Most people with irritable bowel syndrome have occasional events. Some of these people may still experience problems and require long-term medication prescription.

A common treatment for this condition is the addition of fiber to the diet. Theoretically, they expand inside the digestive tract, reducing its chance to manifest spasms when carrying and digest food. In addition, fiber promotes regular bowel movements, helping to reduce constipation.

Stress can cause sings to confirm the disease. Regular and balanced meals and exercise can help reduce stress and problems associated with irritable bowel syndrome. Smoking may worsen symptoms of irritable bowel syndrome. IBS can be controlled also with sport.
